Heritage, Innovation and Art
through Fresco-Therapy for Prisoners
Creative innovation involving society, education and built heritage in 2009
A very special project started in September 2009 in the Penitentiary Institute and Prison in Balassagyarmat, Hungary: a skill training and art-therapy i.e. fresco-therapy for helping the prisoners in their reintegration. The course is includes monument heritage and art besides the craftsman-training for painters in the building industry. During the training that takes for 18 month they are renovating the monument chapel built in the mid-1800s. The participants are involved in art design and fresco painting of the cupola of the chapel, which is 13 metre high. The society, the Justice ministry and also the media follows the project with large interest. The project, its approach is new. Nothing similar has been heard so far. The project was heard by the painters and technical schools in building industry just like by experts of monument heritage. They shows a great intention to implement the product, technology and the approach of educating art and heritage in the general, but relevant education system in technical schools. The society-formation power of fresco – that is believed by artist is seemed to be proved. What power of fresco are we talking? More information see below:
